These electric scooters require an app to activate for the first time. Although it is possible to use it afterwards without the app, features are limited. For some of the models, there are many features (odometer, locking, battery data for KQI3) that are only possible to access with their app. Moreover, the app exhibits anti-user behavior: it requires internet to function as well as having an account with them (it will refuse to synchronize data over bluetooth if internet is not available, even though it should not be required), and will periodically log you out so you have to reconnect to their server anyways.
