Service siphoning is a common practice where licences for products get terminated or changed after purchase.
How it works
[edit | edit source]The company sells the license to a product digitally and changes it after purchase to a different license. For example, this could be a lifetime license becoming a 5 year license, or a 5 year license becoming a 2 year license.
Why it is a problem
[edit | edit source]This means that the consumer won't be able to use the license for as long as they wanted to and also meaning they will need to buy a new license to keep using it after that time has passed.
