The Office of Communications (commonly known as Ofcom) is the United Kingdom’s communications regulator, responsible for overseeing television, radio, telecommunications, postal services, and the radio spectrum. Established under the Office of Communications Act 2002 and formally launched in 2003, Ofcom replaced multiple legacy regulators and has since become the central authority for communications policy in the UK.[citation needed] Its mandate includes protecting consumers, promoting competition, and ensuring compliance with broadcasting standards.
