Better Way Electronics (BWE) is an Australian company founded in 2018 by Louie Tahiri[1] (formerly known as Luan Tahiraj[2]), who has formerly been convicted for serious crimes involving hacking and the abuse of private information[3]. It is focused around technology repair, and its tech diagnostic software was widely used by both tech repair shops and consumers doing personal repairs globally, especially for modern Playstation devices.

Consumer-impact summary[edit | edit source]

  • User freedom: Software distributed by BWE could easily have its support or function revoked due to arbitrarily-enforced terms.[4]
  • User Privacy: Known to spy on devices of individuals and users of software distributed by BWE. The owner of the company has previously been criminally convicted for offenses involving malicious hacking and exploitation of sensitive user data.[3]
  • Business model: Repairing electronics and selling software that can be used by other repair shops.
  • Market control: Controls portions of the tech repair market with software; may be nullified should a bounty[3] be cashed in.[5]

Incidents[edit | edit source]

This is a list of all consumer-protection incidents this company is involved in. Any incidents not mentioned here can be found in the Better Way Electronics category.

Use of diagnostic software as spyware[edit | edit source]

The software produced by BWE has been known to perform excessive monitoring of users' PCs, and cease functioning if any kind of 'undesireable' behavior was observed. Due to Louie Tahiri's history of cybercrime, as well as aggressive tendencies during customer support interactions, such monitoring and access to data have been the subject of scrutiny and concern.

Attempting to cover-up malicious behaviors[edit | edit source]

Upon multiple occasions, BWE has been cited being the cause of content that is critical[3] or merely reporting on malicious behavior[4] of the company and its owner to be reported under a privacy request.[6] Additionally, recently, all public-facing ends of BWE have been taken down, including the website, X account, YouTube channel, and GitHub page were taken down, meaning additional evidence has likely been removed.
