::A wiki mod mainly involves making sure no vandalism is occurring and if there is, applying the necessary block to the offender (usually after a warning is ignored or not if there's clear malice intent). Regarding the file redirects, you do not have the "Leave a redirect behind" option above the "Watch source page and target page" button? :::I have never seen such an option displayed on the Special:MovePage (see <code>File:CRW move page - no disable redirect.png</code>). This has always been the case for both the "Vector legacy (2010)" and "Vector (2022)" skins. — Sojourna (talk) 01:23, 28 March 2026 (UTC)

==archiving websites behind cloudflare or any other blockers==
Hello, | |||
wondering if there's a method to archive content behind a bot blocker (mostly cloudflare). I'm trying to archive #41 of Accellion data breach : https://dockets.justia.com/docket/california/candce/5:2021cv01203/373802
I've thought that I could do something like pass the flare check on the browser, then save the site contents, then upload them somewhere and archive that.
Do you or any of the other moderators know if archiving protected sites is possible? Any help is appreciated. Left4Code (talk) 03:14, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
:I've thought about it a little more, maybe it would be a good idea to add a url status of blocked or something to denote that some sort of restriction on archival services is happening. That way if more effort is put into getting archives of blocked links, that they can be searchable. Left4Code (talk) 03:31, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
::actually, if you manually type this, it does actually work. Left4Code (talk) 03:33, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
:::here's a proof of concept for this: Alien Rides
:::I think a decent syntax would be: archive-blocked (captcha:<type>) where type could be:
:::cloudflare | |||
:::recaptcha | |||
:::anubis | |||
:::go-away | |||
:::unknown - if the blocker is "in house" or otherwise not apparent.
:::captcha is only really there to make it apparent to others that what's blocking the archive is some sort of verification system, editors might not know the specific name of a bot blocker but will understand that it is blocking the archive. :If a web page is proving impossible to archive because of services such as Cloudflare, that usually only leaves the option of saving the entire page, uploading the file to CRW, and then having the Wayback Machine archive said CRW file page. However, in this specific instance I believe have found a better source to cite that renders your problem moot. Zebelman v. Accellion, Inc. (5:21-cv-01203) on Court Listener is more up-to-date than Justia's page and I had no issue archiving it.

:Should you encounter other problems (such as Twitter/X and Instagram posts), I've found the Project:Archive everything page to be helpful in the fight against link rot. :) Sojourna (talk) 05:24, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
::Done. Replaced the Justia citation with the Court Listener counterpart. — Sojourna (talk) 23:24, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
::Hey there, | |||
::I've been working on the Archive everything project lately and encountered similar issues when archiving some specific news websites that started blocking the archive.org crawlers. I opened a ticket on the CRW discord-server and talked to the staff about it.
::Here's what i found out:
::It's best to use the Internet Archive and Ghost Archive first, since they are highly trusted by the community. (among other smaller projects)
::If those don't work on the website that was sourced, you can try finding a replica of the page that does allow the crawlers.
::If that isn't possible either one can save the website as a pdf file by using "ctlr + p" and "save-to-pdf". Then upload that pdf file to archive.org. It well create an archive.org link for this file that can be used as your archiving link in this wiki.
::This should only be a last resort though, since pdf files could be tampered with by the archiver. According to Keith, the mods will let this slide for now, because having such a file is still better than nothing.
::Hope this can help o.o
::PS. directly saving a file to archive.org instead of first saving it to CRW and then the WBM should be simpler and easier on the drive space, since you're only saving it once... Guacamole (talk) 17:48, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
