Incident
In November 2022, it was discovered that Dyson had started applying a thick layer of glue to the circuit board, making it impossible to replace the power button when it breaks and forcing customers to replace the entire housing.[1] The power button breaking is a relatively common issue in Dyson vacuums.
A Dyson employee states: "Yes, I can assure you it’s a normal thing. The glue prevents you from replacing the button yourself."[1] Before this addition of glue, some customers who repaired their vacuum cleaner pointed out that the trigger design was flawed on the Dyson V11, and would easily stick or even break.[2]
Impact on consumers
Customers are no longer able to replace the power button[3] without having to buy a new housing. The prices of these housings range from $80 to $200, which are prices for which other brands sell full vacuum cleaners.[4]
