Jagex Limited, a British video game developer and publisher known for its flagship titles RuneScape and Old School RuneScape offered subscribers grandfathered monthly pricing if a subscriber returns to a monthly subscription after going through a yearly subscription. On 10 March 2026, Jagex suddenly announced changes to its membership offerings[1]. These changes were announced with minimal advance notice and at the same time membership prices were increased, raising concerns about potential bait-and-switch tactics.
Background
Jagex offers membership that allow access to both the pay-to-play version of RuneScape and Old School RuneScape. On 10 March 2026, Jagex announced changes to its membership including a price increase following a previous increase in its membership cost in August 2024[2]. These changes impact long-term subscribers who had grandfathered membership pricing when opting to subscribe yearly through RuneScape's Premier membership (now known as 12 Month Membership[3]).
