Amazon revokes access to their Appstore on non-Amazon devices

In August of 2025, Amazon revoked access to the Amazon App Store on all non-Amazon Android devices.[1] Customers will now be required to purchase Amazon hardware[2], such as Fire TV or Fire Tablet, if they wish to use the applications they own.

Amazon's response

A spokesperson from Amazon said they are taking this step to look inwards and focusing their efforts "on the Appstore experience on our own devices, as that’s where the overwhelming majority of our customers currently engage with it.” They also stated that only a small amount of customers use the app store outside Amazon devices, and that made them decide to take this step.[3]
