Receptions of the announcement and release are mostly negative. Negative comments and critiques highlight these aspects:
- Privacy concerns: The fact users have to submit information about their credit card has raised concerns, due to risks of data breaches and the possible retention or usage of that information. Some of them are concerned that in the future the verification could ask for more sensitive information.
- Anti-ownership practices: Some users critiziced the how Apple forces the Age Verification and limits the user's freedom, no mattering if the device owner is already an adult.
- Effectiveness of the system: Users have critiziced the effectiveness of this method, because children could bypass the verification by taking their parents' credit card. Also, some users have critiziced the verification requirement of using a credit card, due to not all adults have one.
