On July 5th, 2026, Linktree plans to change the terms of service[1] and privacy policy[2] to allow the collection of user content to train Dall-E 3, an image generation AI provided by OpenAI.[3] This is proceeding an article made on March 19, 2026, describing the features made possible by utilizing AI.
Background
[edit | edit source]Linktree is a social media reference landing page host based in Melbourne, Australia. It allows creators to customize their landing page with urls to their social media, custom thumbnails, and videos.
Incident
[edit | edit source]On March 19, 2026, Linktree posted an article introducing AI-features[3]. In order deliver these features, Linktree describes collecting user content including but not limited to:
- Text prompts from using their AI features
- Images and videos
- Url links used to make the landing page
- "Information provided by third-party services"
On May 31, the updated Terms of Service page went live. Linktree sent an email reminding users of the upcoming change.
On July 5th, Linktree's new terms of service will come into effect.
