Chick-fil-A sharing video data with Facebook
[edit | edit source]In January 22, 2023, the company was hit with a lawsuit over allegedly sharing details on what consumers watch on their website to Facebook using Facebook Tracking Pixel.[1] The lawsuit is still in progress as of March 7, 2026.
Data breach
[edit | edit source]Unknown hackers infiltrated the company's systems through a third party source, allowing access to over 71,000 customers' information that includes;[2]
- Names
- Emails
- Credit and debit card (only last 4 digits)
- Chick-fil-A membership numbers
- Amount of Chick-fil-A credits
- Phone numbers (if saved in account)
After several reports came in from customers, Chick-fil-A conducted an investigation in January, finding the approximate date of the attack to be between December 18, 2022 and February 12, 2023. On March 2, Chick-fil-A issued a email to affected customers and added "rewards" to affected accounts.[3][4] Four days later, customers filed class action lawsuits against the company for failing to secure users' data through their cybersecurity practices. On October 11, 2023, the plaintiffs reached a closed settlement agreement with the company.[5]
Falsely advertised delivery fee and hidden delivery fees
[edit | edit source]Several customers filed a lawsuit against the company for marketing their delivery prices as free or $2.99-3.99 deliveries, but charging customers up to 20-%30 more for delivery orders.[6][7] The lawsuit reached a settlement of $4.4 Million that requires the company to give eligible customers $29.25 in cash or gift card transaction.[8][9]
