Login only possible with an app (2024-)

[edit | edit source]

The login to the online portal ("meinCosmosDirekt") where one can update account information, view contract documents etc., is possible only via 2 factor authentication, which is possibly only by use of a proprietary app. This app is available only from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store[2]. They write in "Fragen zur Zwei-Schritt-Anmeldung" (translation: "Questions about 2-Step-Login"):

"Die Zwei-Schritt-Anmeldung ist Teil einer Datenschutzrichtlinie und ein Schutz, um Deine Informationen sicher zu halten. Dazu sind wir gesetzlich verpflichtet." (Translation: "2-step-login is part of a data protection regulation and a protection to keep your data safe. We are legally obligated to it.").

This sentence is misleading, as there are alternatives to proprietary apps for 2 factor authentication[3].[citation needed - Needs a non-Wikipedia citation]

An individual user reported being offered an individual workaround, after contacting customer service[4]. Another user report dates back to 2024[5].
