The GLAS Smart Thermostat is a discontinued smart thermostat manufactured by Johnson Controls. The thermostat was released in 2018 and featured a translucent OLED touchscreen, remote control through the GLAS mobile application, air-quality monitoring, energy monitoring, and integrations with digital assistants.[1]

Johnson Controls later discontinued the GLAS thermostat and ended development of the GLAS mobile application.[2] In March 2026, Johnson Controls ended support for GLAS cloud services and remote functionality.[3]

Following the end of GLAS cloud services and remote functionality, features dependent on the GLAS mobile application or Johnson Controls' online services are no longer available. The thermostat can continue to perform local thermostat functions, but owners can no longer use its former remote smart-home functionality.

Because the thermostat hardware remains functional, restoration of local network control or publication of an open protocol could allow owners and third-party projects such as Home Assistant to maintain remote functionality without dependence on Johnson Controls' discontinued cloud infrastructure.

End of cloud services and remote functionality (March 2026)

[edit | edit source]

Johnson Controls ended support for GLAS thermostat cloud services and remote functionality in March 2026.[4]

The loss of these services removed functionality that had originally been advertised as part of the product, including remote control through the GLAS mobile application. Johnson Controls' original product announcement described mobile-app control as one of the thermostat's available methods of operation.[5]
