Raiffeisen RaiPay is the mobile payment solution and tap to pay application provided by Raiffeisen Bank International and RaiTec.[1]
Consumer-impact summary
[edit | edit source]RaiPay operates using the mobile payments SDK provided by Antelop (now Entrust)[2], a US company[3], despite Raiffeisen Bank International having their own card service[4] and contracts with Visa and Mastercard. This may result in the data of Europeans being processed outside of Europe[citation needed].
RaiPay uses the Google Play Integrity API to verify the device security before wallet creation. This creates a hard dependence on Google, and prevents RaiPay from working on GrapheneOS and other custom Operating Systems. RaiPay does not disclose this requirement on their website, claiming it works on all devices with Android 10 or above. [5]
Considering that RaiPay is available on huawei devices[6], the RaiPay application implements an exception to the Google Play Integrity API for huawei devices, but not for any other android devices[citation needed]. According to GrapheneOS development team, the Android Attestation API is preferable over the Play Integrity API[7] and due to its cross platform nature could make these code paths simpler and unified.
According to various Google Play reviews[8] and personal experience RaiPay has been poorly maintained since its launch in 2023. From July 2026, Raiffeisen Bank now supports Google Pay[9], with support and review responses pushing customers to use Google Pay instead.
