Remove Your Media, LLC is a copyright enforcement company. It issues copyright takedown notices on other companies' behalf.[1] Company's CEO is Eric Green.[2] Company's address in their official website leads to a Walmart.
Consumer impact summary
[edit | edit source]Remove Your Media has an infamous practice of scanning the Internet for infringing content using AI tools and automatically issuing invalid DMCA takedown notices. Publicly available discussions on forums, social media and blog posts from various victims who have received DMCA notices from Remove Your Media suggest that the scanning is done by searching for individual keywords within websites and automatically striking them without verifying that the content is actually infringing someone's copyright.

False strikes against blogs posting anime reviews
[edit | edit source]On 2015, Google received takedown notice regarding blog No Nonsense Anime Blog and notified the blogger. The article in question didn't have any illegal content and the reason why it was flagged was because the title consisted only of anime title and episode number which is in common with actual illegal sites. Articles were reinstated by Google after blogger filed counter-notices. Google acknowledged that these DMCA notices were wrongful.[3][4][5]
On 2018, Google received multiple takedown notices regarding blog Crow's World of Anime and notified the blogger. The articles in question had only few screenshots from an anime. The blogger sent counter claims to Google for every notice. Remove Your Media rescinded the claims and whitelisted the site.[6]
On 2021, hosting company for Sekina Mayu blog received a takedown notice about an article from Remove Your Media. The blogger wasn't given a reason. After they deleted the article, they were again contacted by Remove Your Media who said that they flagged the blog by mistake and allowed the blogger to restore the article. Blogger said that the blog posts didn't contain any links and that blog title was the reason why the article was flagged.[7]
Mass copyright strikes against anime reaction channels on YouTube (September 2026)
[edit | edit source]At the beginning of September 2026, many anime reaction channels on YouTube began receiving dozens of copyright strikes from Remove Your Media on behalf of VIZ Media. In some cases the number of copyright strikes exceeded 100 and over 400 videos taken down.[8][9] Strikes impacted not only anime reaction videos but also commentary, discussion, and other types of videos without a single second of anime footage but which contained the name of the anime in the video title.[10]
A few days later after the incident began, Nicholas Light TV, one of well-known creators covering this incident, claimed that he and other creators had received a cease-and-desist from Remove Your Media that included orders to stop accusing them of fraud and copyright abuse.[11]
BleachBit DMCA notice
[edit | edit source]During the same period, BleachBit, an open-source disk cleaning software, received a false DMCA notice to their website bleachbit.org that said that the website was infringing on copyright of Bleach anime. BleachBit addressed this notice on their website, explaining the difference between the disk cleaning software BleachBit and the animated series Bleach.[12]
False strikes against Witch Cult Translations (End of September 2026)
[edit | edit source]Witch Cult Translations, a website posting free translations of a free web novel Re:Zero which is originally posted on user-generated website Shōsetsuka ni Narō by its author for free, had multiple pages delisted from Google Search after Google received multiple DMCA notices from Remove Your Media on behalf of VIZ Media. The pages were listed again after appeals from Witch Cult Translations.[13] Note that VIZ Media doesn't own any copyright to any of Re:Zero media as official light novels and manga are licensed to Yen Press and anime is licensed to Crunchyroll and Muse Asia.
