SimpliSafe is an American home security company, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, specializing in do-it-yourself (DIY) wireless security systems and professional monitoring services. Founded in 2006 by Chad and Eleanor Laurans, the company launched its first wireless alarm system in 2009 and has since grown to protect over 2 million customers in the United States and United Kingdom.

Vulnerabilities

SimpliSafe has documented vulnerabilities within their hardware devices, especially several of their older models.

Unencrypted Over-the-Air PIN Interception (2016)

SimpliSafe original first generation keypad communicated to the base station using unencrypted communication, exposing the pin to potential proximity devices. This was a hardware level issue as the chip on the system could not be updated with newer firmware.^[1]^[2] According to Forbes, the number of homes with this "unfixable" system was 300,000.^[3]

False discount and advertising class action lawsuit (2025)

In February of 2025, SimpliSafe was alleged to have falsely advertised discounts for its home security systems.^[4] They utilized fake banners to create a sense of urgency for users to purchase their products for discounts that were permanently offered.
