Add topicGDPR consent on application being iffy
[edit source]I was put onto this topic from a post on the app a few weeks back, but I'm not savvy enough to research the inner workings or legality of what the mobile app is doing.
The issue:
On the mobile application (in the EU atleast) you have an option in the settings menu of the application, to check and consent to use of personal data. When you open the "manage options" portion of the consent popup, you get the option to decline use of data for various reasons.
some of the options are labeled "Legitimate interest (xx # of vendors)" - nowhere on the app is the term "legitimate interest" broken down, so you do not know what you're consenting to.
additionally, if you decline everything (which you have to do case by case, there is no "decline all" button, but there is an "accept all" button) and reopen the menu to check, EVERYTHING you've declined is rechecked as accepted. which means you have virtually no way of knowing if you actually did decline it, or if it's just an illusion.
The idea behind posting it here:
if there's anyone smarter than me that frequents this wiki and has any way of checking what's going on or evaluating the way this works from a consumer rights position I'd love for them to take a crack at this. MightySneaker (talk) 13:27, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
