"A person making an automatic renewal or continuous service offer to a consumer must provide the consumer with the option to cancel at any time using a simple cancellation mechanism that is as easy to use as the mechanism that the consumer used to provide consent and that is through the same medium that the consumer used to provide consent." What about those apps that have 30 introduction screens where they personalize your experience and they show some apps features and then ask for your money? Will they be required to have 30 screens when you try to cancel?

What do you think about this? Can companies do this and still follow this law? Idk123 (talk) 09:27, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think that companies are incentivized to make the on-boarding process to use their service as convenient as possible. Sometimes this requires, like you mentioned 30 choices to help customize the service that they are signing up for. However, assuming that these 30 options are required, they will try to make that experience as quick and as simple as possible (you just have to select with a tap on the screen, and it would take less than 5 mins, all completely online), and to comply with the law, they would still have to make the cancellation process as simple as the sign-on process.
There is the possibility of a trade-off, where companies bloat up the sign-up process to maliciously comply with the law and allow them the leeway to make the cancellation process lengthier, but I think that this trade-off is one that is not going to be considered much at all, as the cost of new legitimate clients turned away by a difficult sign-up process would definitely be much higher than gains from those who would not want to cancel because it is slightly more troublesome.
I think that generally people who want to cancel a subscription are more determined to do so as compared to those who want to sign-up for something new. ~2026-1125 (talk) 15:19, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
