Broken Filters

edit

There's an issue with the spam filter at the moment which means that, due to the presence of a restricted word, no-one without advanced persms is able to edit the page.

We're working on a fix, but for now please save any proposed edits for this page in a text editor, and feel free to discuss them here while we work on a fix Keith (talk) 07:44, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Overbroad page

edit

I think this page steps a bit over the anti-consumer threshold. More precise and descriptive subsection titles ('Bias' is particularly weird) would be useful as well as a more narrow focus which avoids overlapping too much with dark patterns, etc.

I might also suggest changing the page title to 'predatory microtransactions' as this would help to avoid the implication that all microtransactions are automatically anti-consumer. Keith (talk) 18:10, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

I do have to admit, I was struggling to get some proper ideas for the proper section names to write up, so I am more than welcome to see a better name implemented for this purpose.
As for the title change, you have my support on it, just make sure you get the redirects set up! (I was considering having 'mtx' be a redirect as well) JamesTDG (talk) 19:36, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think this page can be combined with the regular Microtransactions article. The overview of that article already sets the disclaimer that it's not inherently anti-consumer. So putting the info of this article there could help refine that one to focus on consumer rights. Beanie Bo (talk) 02:39, 4 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I would like to point out that this article's former name was 'Microtransactions'. Also, Microtransaction is far too criminally underdeveloped to consider merging this into that article. JamesTDG (talk) 02:59, 4 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
It was really confusing to have this article, but not have on on microtransactions. (Including redlinks in other articles.)
I recreated microtransactions as a redirect to here (plus a note there saying to look here before making it not a redirect).
I think this article would make more sense as microtransactions, noting the problematic cases in the contents. (I don't think every concept has to be anti-consumer, there is even a pro-consumer concepts section.) However, I see that others see things differently. As long as it is in one article that can be found from the microtransactions redirect, I don't much care what it is called. Drakeula (talk) 08:11, 21 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
