User:JamesTDG/Endangered Software List

From Consumer Rights Wiki

The Endangered Software List (ESL) dedicated project that is meant to track the condition of corporate-distributed software, and ensure the wiki remains aware of potential incidents to cover. For the sake of clutter reduction, the ESL is meant ONLY to track software that have some risk of becoming non-functional.

If you're unsure if something should be added to this list, please open a topic under the discussion tab of this article.

If you're looking for examples to add to this list, Delisted Games offers a watch list on game delistings and server shutdowns, and Wikipedia has an article covering Always-Online DRM.

How it works

[edit | edit source]

Software is graded on a scale inspired by the conservation status list

Labels explained
Shorthand Name Explanation
VU Vulnerable Software that is required to phone home to a server or has some other risk that can damage its functionality in the future
EN Endangered Software which has a high potential of being shut down due to conditions like poor company performance, IPOs, buyouts, or absurd subscription stunts
CR Critically Endangered Software which has been announced to be shuttered by the publisher in due time, but could be reversed given enough pushback from end users
SH Shut Down Software that has been discontinued by the publisher, but can still be used via cracking/jailbreaking or third-party servers
EX Extinct Designated for software that has been discontinued and has not or cannot be revived by third parties
