One circuit board for a residential heat pump,[1][2][3] Carrier part number 352955-701, is listed at $8,410.12 by Technical Hot & Cold Parts[4] & $8,759.21 by Midwest Appliance Parts.[5] The corresponding inverter replacement kits for Lennox XC25 & XP25 systems are listed by that same retailer at $2,422.52 for four ton & $3,480.91 for five ton,[6][7][8][9] & the publicly listed Goodman, York & Rheem boards for comparable residential systems list at $725.95,[10] $1,223.56[11] & $1,880.94[12] respectively. Carrier Enterprise lists the part but shows no price to the public at all.[13]

When this board fails

The part is the factory inverter board kit for four ton & five ton Bryant Evolution Extreme & Carrier Infinity Greenspeed systems, tonnage being the size rating a unit is listed under.[3][1][18][2][13] Variable speed systems in this class drive the compressor through an inverter, the drive that runs the compressor at the speed the system demands.[1]

Fault code 77 is listed in the fault code tables of Bryant's service manual as INVERTER OVER CURRENT EVENT.[1] That manual covers the 180CNV & 280ANV Evolution Extreme series, two through five ton models, & documents the fault codes those systems report, the numbered errors that identify a failure.[1]

Table 7 of Bryant's service manual, headed 280ANV EVENT / FAULT, lists flash code 77 as INVERTER OVER CURRENT EVENT with a reset time of 15 minutes.[1]

Bryant's manual sets out how a technician separates an inverter failure from a compressor failure in four steps.[1]

To troubleshoot if an inverter or compressor is the cause of fault code 69 or 77/95, they need to be separated. 1. Power OFF the outdoor unit. 2. Disconnect the three compressor leads from the inverter output. 3. Power ON the outdoor unit. 4. Give an operational demand through the wall control.

Table 7 of the manual, headed 280ANV EVENT / FAULT, lists code 69 as an inverter internal fault & code 95 as a high current lockout, & gives code 77 a reset time of 15 minutes.[1] Code 79, a compressor no-pump event, is the compressor side result the same procedure is designed to distinguish.[1] The manual states what a recurring fault means once the compressor is disconnected:

If the fault 69 or 77/95 reoccurs it is not a compressor issue, it's an inverter problem. If a fault 79 for compressor no pump occurs, then it is a compressor problem.

IT HAS BEEN REPLACED BY PART # 352955-701, & identifies its fitment as Carrier, Bryant & Payne models 280ANV060000EAAA, 280ANV048000EAAA, 25VNA048A0030040 & 25VNA060A0030040.[3] Midwest Appliance Parts describes the current part as INVERTER 4T-5T, its four ton to five ton designation.[5][3][18]

Prices for the superseded generation run lower than the current part at the two retailers in the table that still price it, though PartsHnC records a regular price of $11,150.95 against its $5,570.06 special price.[19][4][5][20] Once stock of 337737-756 clears, the superseded part is no longer an option & the replacement carries the higher price.[3][4] Technical Hot & Cold Parts recorded the $8,410.12 board as backordered until September 1, 2026.[4]

At one retailer, on one day, the Carrier board costs roughly two & a half times the five ton Lennox kit & roughly three & a half times the four ton Lennox kit.[5][6][7][8][9] The rest of the market prices lower still.[7][4] The comparison is board for board, as each retailer lists it, rather than a claim of functional equivalence.

The highest figure on any non-Carrier row is the $3,480.91 Lennox five ton kit;[7] the Carrier part lists at $8,410.12 & $8,759.21.[4][5] Holding one retailer constant removes the cross store noise: at Technical Hot & Cold Parts, the Carrier board lists at $8,410.12[4] & the five ton Lennox kit at $2,875.43,[14] about 2.9 to 1.

LennoxPros catalogs a dedicated inverter replacement kit for the four ton & five ton units of the Lennox XC25 & XP25 lines.[8][9] Part 619452-03, catalog number 16Y25, is described as an Inverter Replacement Kit, For XC25 / XP25 4 Ton AC Units.[8] Part 619452-04, catalog number 16Y26, is the five ton equivalent.[9]

National Air Warehouse states the Rheem board's fitment in the listing itself: For Use With Models RA2060AJVCB RP2060AJVCA.[12] Rheem's model number legend decodes those strings: 20 = 20 SEER, V = Inverter, & cooling capacity in BTU/hr, with 060 = 60,000.[22] SEER is a unit's Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio.[1] SupplyHouse.com lists the smaller Rheem board, 47-105221-08, at $1,532.19 with the note This item replaces: 47-105221-03,[23] & Rheem's RA20 parts list assigns 47-105221-03 to its 48,000 BTU/hr column.[24][22]

York's price depends on the store. Voomi Supply lists inverter drive kit S1-331-03503-000, for a four ton 16 SEER modulating heat pump, model TH16B4821SA, at $1,223.56;[11] PartsHnC lists the same part number at $2,140.22, a special price against a $2,375.65 regular price, out of stock.[25] A 16 SEER unit sits an efficiency tier below the 20 SEER ratings on the table's Carrier, Rheem & Goodman rows.[11][2][22][26]

The lowest listed price belongs to Goodman. GoodmanParts.net lists PCB assembly 2P361563-3S-M at $725.95, out of stock.[10] Goodman's service bulletin SR-083Rev1 of July 13, 2021 lists that kit as the new inverter PCB kit for the five ton AC in its 20 SEER table, replacing kit 0272R00994S.[26] The same table lists separate five ton heat pump kits, 2P361563-3S-L for model revisions before a stated cutoff & 3P357343-5S-U for later ones.[26] Daikin's repair parts manual RP-D4325B of July 2020 places board 0272R00994 in models DX20VC0601BB & DX20VC0601BC.[27]

Trane's number is not published at all. Trane Supply lists circuit board BRD05615 with Login /Create Account to view price and availability. where a price would appear, the same gate Carrier Enterprise runs on 352955-701.[28][13]

Kit contents

Technical Hot & Cold Parts itemizes the Lennox 16Y26 box as an inverter kit, a reactor, part 105583-01, four self tapping screws & instructions.[14] Lennox's installation instruction for the 16Y25 & 16Y26 kits, form 507841-01 of April 2018, gives the same packing list: one replacement inverter, one replacement reactor & four self-tapping screws.[29]

Carrier's current listing itemizes nothing beyond the kit itself: Includes: (1) - Inverter Board Kit.[4] The superseded 337737-756 is itemized at two retailers as an inverter assembly with shield & gasket, ten screws, a zip tie & installation instructions 99TA512016A; neither list includes a reactor.[3][30]

Carrier sells a reactor as its own line item: reactor kit 345571-752 lists at $137.03 at Technical Hot & Cold Parts, fitment given as Various.[31] A Carrier reactor kit is a low three figure part at that retailer; the Carrier & Lennox five ton kits at the same store sit $5,534.69 apart.[31][4][14]

Carrier's smaller inverter assembly

The same retailer prices Carrier's smaller inverter for this product family at under a quarter of the four to five ton part. Part 337737-753, the inverter assembly whose fitment list reads 25VNA024A0030040, 25VNA036A0030040, 280ANV024000EAAA & 280ANV036000EAAA, lists at $1,961.01 at Technical Hot & Cold Parts, against $8,410.12 for the four & five ton board at the same store.[32][4][18][2] Those models are the smaller siblings of the units the $8,410.12 board serves.[32][3]

The retailer's Manufacturer specification field differs between the two assemblies: Emerson Climate Technologies on the smaller part, Astec International Limited on the superseded four & five ton part.[32][3]

What a whole system costs

Whether a repair is worth making depends on the part price against the cost of the whole machine. One online retailer, myhvacprice.com, lists a complete five ton Carrier Infinity variable speed system, comprising air conditioner 24VNA060A003, furnace 58TN0A135C24-22 & cased coil CNPVP6124ALA, at $15,706.75 down from a struck-through $20,997.44.[15]

That package is a comparably specified Carrier Infinity variable speed system rather than the equipment 352955-701 fits: it is built around the 24VNA060A003 air conditioner, while the board's fitment list covers 280ANV & 25VNA models.[15][3] Taken as an order of magnitude reference rather than a like-for-like comparison, $8,410.12 for one board sits against $15,706.75 for that complete package before any labor.[4][15] At those two listed figures, the one board is more than half the price of the complete package.[4][15]

CBS News published a repair or replace heuristic, the $5,000 rule, on June 24, 2026: multiply the system's age in years by the estimated repair cost, & above $5,000 a replacement is often considered the better long-term option for your HVAC system.[33] The piece, by Angelica Leicht, presents the rule as simply a starting point that can help frame the decision, not replace a professional evaluation, & the page carries a disclosure that CBS may receive commissions from some links to products on this page.[33]

One year multiplied by $8,410.12 already clears $5,000, so at this board's listed price the rule points to replacement at any system age.[33][4]

Price visibility and distributor gating

Carrier Enterprise lists the part in its own catalog as Factory Authorized Parts™ - 352955-701 Inverter 4T-5T, with item & manufacturer numbers both recorded as 352955-701.[13] Where a price would appear, the page reads Sign in for pricing.[13] A homeowner deciding whether to repair or replace a system cannot see from that catalog what the determining part costs.[13]

Peirce-Phelps lists the four ton & five ton Infinity Greenspeed condensing units with no price displayed, & gates stock visibility behind a dealer sign in.[2][18]

Watsco Inc.'s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025 sets out who owns those two catalogs:

We have an 80% controlling interest in Carrier Enterprise I, and Carrier has a 20% non-controlling interest. In 2019, Carrier Enterprise I acquired substantially all of the HVAC assets and assumed certain of the liabilities of Peirce-Phelps, Inc., an HVAC distributor operating in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

The board's price & the condensing unit's price are gated by one distributor group, majority owned by Watsco rather than by Carrier.[34][13][2]

Carrier's homeowner parts page points the same direction: Carrier HVAC Parts are exclusively available through authorized Carrier dealers rather than direct-to-consumer, & the page carries no price for any part.[35]

Watsco's report of second quarter 2025 results, filed with the SEC as an exhibit to Form 8-K, attributes a record 29.3% gross margin in part to further scaling of Watsco's pricing technologies alongside the timing and extent of OEM pricing actions, & describes the machinery:

Watsco's pricing optimization platform has contributed to the Company's record gross margin performance in 2025. The platform is designed to manage and optimize the vast number of pricing records across our business. Examples include the application of sophisticated pricing rules and strategies for specific products, across various geographic markets and for a variety of customer segments.

The filing documents a distributor applying its own pricing rules on top of OEM pricing actions; it names no individual part.[36] Watsco's second quarter 2026 results, filed July 29, 2026, report gross profit margin of 27.5% against 29.3% a year earlier, & attribute the 2025 figure to OEM pricing actions that captured inflation & tariffs, putting that benefit, together with other A2L transition-related impacts, at about 130 basis points.[37]

Midwest Appliance Parts displays the part's price, an add to cart control, & a note that it requires the model number & serial number to verify that a part fits the appliance, all to a visitor who is not signed in.[5] Technical Hot & Cold Parts displays its own price & advertises a Parts Counter (Public Welcome) at its Westland, Michigan address.[4]

What could explain the price

Who pays the listed price turns on warranty status. Carrier's limited warranty for air conditioner & heat pump condensing units with Puron refrigerant, form ACHPVS-C-02WAR of July 2023, names condensing unit models 24VNA6 & 25VNA4 & warrants parts to the original owner for ten years if the unit is registered within 90 days of installation, otherwise five, with California, Quebec & other jurisdictions that prohibit warranty benefits conditioned on registration excepted; subsequent owners get five years.[16]

Bryant's form 39004DP529 of January 2015 is the same certificate in generic form: it names no model & carries the same ten with registration, otherwise five, structure.[17]

Both forms promise a new or remanufactured part if a part fails due to defect,[16] & Bryant's lists the first exclusion:

Labor or other costs incurred for diagnosing, repairing, removing, installing, shipping, servicing or handling of either defective parts, or replacement parts, or new units.

Carrier's form carries the same exclusion, adding a proviso that labor costs are included only for eligible equipment claimed under & qualifying for the Unit Replacement Limited Warranty.[16] Carrier's certificate applies to condensing unit models 24VNA6 & 25VNA4, a different series from the 25VNA0 units in the board's fitment list; Bryant's names no model at all.[16][17][3] Neither certificate uses the word inverter, & neither defines what counts as a part.[16][17]

On the terms as written, a registered original owner inside ten years is owed the part & pays the excluded labor & diagnosis; an owner outside the window faces the full listed price.[16][17] A system contemporaneous with the January 2015 form is at or past the end of a ten year window in 2026.[17]

Carrier has answered the price question on the record, for equipment. In an April 8, 2026 ACHR News piece by Joanna R. Turpin, Nick Arch, vice president & general manager of residential solutions at Carrier, named five drivers of residential equipment price increases: federal efficiency regulations & updated DOE testing procedures, the transition to lower-GWP refrigerants, commodity & component cost increases, increased equipment sophistication, & labor & manufacturing wage inflation.[38] Arch said pricing reflects real cost inputs, not opportunistic increases or margin expansion.[38] Arch's five drivers & his quote address complete-equipment pricing; the piece does not discuss replacement parts pricing.[38]

The trade press has put a number on inverter board replacement generally. In an ACHR News guest column of February 15, 2026, Fred Kreusch, business development manager for surge protection & voltage monitoring technologies at RectorSeal, wrote that Inverter board replacement typically costs up to 40% of the entire system's value.[39] The column argues for the power quality monitoring products his employer sells & gives no source for the figure.[39]

Lennox's catalog is not uniformly cheaper than Carrier's. At Technical Hot & Cold Parts, Lennox parts labeled Inverter list at $13,042.83 for part 15G74,[40] $8,798.90 for 15G75[41] & $5,444.49 for 15G27,[42] & each of those three listings gives its fitment as Various. The 16Y25 & 16Y26 kits carry published XC25 & XP25 fitment; the 15G listings name no model.[8][9][40]

Retailer choice moves prices too: the same 16Y26 kit lists at $2,875.43 at Technical Hot & Cold Parts & $3,480.91 at Midwest Appliance Parts.[14][7]

Every price on this page is a single observation, recorded August 4 or August 5, 2026, at the retailer named alongside it.[4][5][12][10]

Carrier may price its aftermarket higher than Lennox prices its own, which is a commercial choice a manufacturer is free to make. Or the board may cost more to build, in which case the difference should narrow as the superseded stock clears & the newer part reaches volume. Neither reading is testable from public listings alone, because the one number that would settle it, what Carrier Enterprise charges a signed in customer for the part, is the number the public cannot see.[13]

Antitrust context

Carrier Global Corp. is a named defendant in a federal antitrust class action filed March 20, 2026 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Berg v. Robert Bosch LLC, case number 2:26-cv-10949-SKD-APP.[21][43] Count 1 pleads a violation of Section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1, for restraint of trade, & the complaint alleges that the estimated overcharge is 8% and highly statistically significant.[21]

CourtListener carries the docket as HVAC Equipment Antitrust Litigation, 2:26-cv-10949, (E.D. Mich.), assigned to District Judge Susan K. DeClercq, with interim co-lead class counsel appointed April 21, 2026, a stipulation & order regarding pretrial consolidation & a discovery stay, & July 30, 2026 as the date of the last known filing.[43]

Robert Freedman reported for Facilities Dive on the combined share of the seven manufacturer groups named in the suit:

control about 90% of the U.S. residential and commercial HVAC market when their subsidiaries are included

Freedman also reported that Carrier responded to the suit by saying We deny the baseless allegations in this lawsuit and will fight it vigorously & Carrier embraces competition and operates lawfully and with integrity.[44]

The complaint defines its subject as the appliances used in residential and commercial ducted heating, ventilation, and cooling systems, & its class covers purchasers of that equipment from at least as early as January 1, 2020 through the present.[21] Read against that appliance-level definition, the class the complaint pleads does not cover the $8,410.12 board.[21][4]
