Adobe Express Photos is free photo editing software developed by Adobe. In addition to making it available on its website, Adobe has begun including Adobe Express Photos in updates to several versions of Adobe Acrobat, a separate software package.

Enterprise Updates Silently Install the Software

[edit | edit source]

Starting in June 2026, Adobe began automatically including Express Photos in updates for certain Adobe Acrobat products.[1] This was done for versions of the software with auto-update enabled. To prevent installation of Express Photos on these systems, Adobe requires users to opt out of having Express Photos installed as part of their Adobe Acrobat updates.

Opting Out of Installation Requires Editing the Windows Registry

[edit | edit source]

Adobe's Community site announcement for Adobe Acrobat Studio and Acrobat Express Windows versions describes the method to opt out of having Express Photos automatically installed. The way to prevent the software from being automatically installed requires editing the Windows registry. If the software was previously installed automatically, the only way to opt out is to uninstall Express Photos, and then make the registry edit.

Installer Included in Updates for Other Adobe Software

Adobe Express Photos installation prompt from Adobe Acrobat Reader's update process. The only indication this is optional is the checkbox, marked by default.

Adobe also includes Express Photos in some software update packages for other Adobe software. While updating the user's Adobe software, the update program switches to installing Adobe Express Photos, displaying a dialog box with a Continue button, and a checked checkbox. Clicking on Continue will install Adobe Express Photos, and the pre-filled in checkbox is considered consent to install and agreement with both the Express Photos license agreement and its privacy policy. Unchecking the checkbox is necessary for the option to skip installation of Express Photos as part of updating Adobe Reader.

Changes to Default Windows Keystrokes Behavior

[edit | edit source]

When Adobe Express Photos is installed, it changes the behavior of the Print Screen key in Windows.[2] Users attempting to use the Print Screen key for its default function to take a screenshot will discover that Print Screen now opens Adobe Express Photos.
