url-status field removal

[edit source]

Unless the field is duplicated elsewhere within the reference, please do not remove it.

  • The CS1 maintenance message serves as a useful notice that one or more references are lacking an archive capture on a page.
  • For references that do have an archive link, removing the url-status will by default treat the original URL as a dead link even when a web page is still live.
  • It's also useful for inexperienced editors who may encounter link rot and wish to update the reference to reflect its current status. "url-status=live" is quite straight-forward in this regard and saves the user from needing to look up the cite web template page.

Thanks for your help on CRW. :) — Sojourna (talk) 05:49, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
