I came here through Louis Rossmann and through my own hardware. I own two Sony BRAVIA televisions from 2011 and 2012, and trying to keep them useful turned into an article: services withdrawn, GPL source releases taken down, firmware downloads ended, and a set that detects a 3D signal, says so on screen, and then refuses to switch.

What I try to do here is simple. Test it on the hardware before claiming it, archive the manufacturer's own pages before citing them, and correct my mistakes in the article rather than quietly. The research and tooling behind my articles are public at sony-bravia-linux, so anyone with the same television can check my work instead of trusting me. Some of it went upstream and was merged by HandBrake and Universal Media Server. I also keep awesome-stereoscopy, a list of stereoscopic imaging from the Victorian stereoscope onwards, including the formats and services that were withdrawn.

Elsewhere I chair the Procedural Memory Knowledge Representation Community Group at the W3C. Different subject, same instinct: formats that are open and documented outlive the companies that made them.

I use AI assistance for writing in English, which is not my first language. The testing, the judgements and the sources are mine, I check every citation against the page it points to, and I follow the AI usage policy checklist. If something I write reads as unchecked output, tell me and I will fix it.
